Mystery Novel Double Dead Gets More Raves

reported by Robert Sperling, FictionFanatic.com

Terry Hoover is the author of the highly acclaimed Southern murder mystery, Double DeadDouble Dead, the debut murder mystery by Charlotte, NC-native Terry Hoover, has received more rave reviews from publications like Crimespree Magazine, BellaOnline, I Love A Mystery and Dorothy L.

"Hoover does a masterful job of drawing the reader into the Kennedy years, and has written a finely crafted, suspenseful mystery that will keep you guessing until the very last page," says Crimespree Magazine.

BellaOnline says that Double Dead "is fast-paced, yet its details are precisely placed: the yo-yo, the ceiling fans, the cigarettes, the big tailfin cars, and the screen door opened in courteous trust to a stranger. The fascinating minor characters include gossipy housewives, poker-playing mechanics, and a conceited pathologist. When they speak, you can hear the southern cadences like a soundtrack in your mind; the dialog is that good."

"The best thing about the book is Hoover 's smooth writing. She subtly draws the reader in with her perceptions of the political climate of the south -- comments about colored drinking fountains and segregation in a time not so long ago," says ILoveAMystery.com.

A review on the Dorothy L. online group says, "Terry Hoover is a new writer worth buying in hardcover...(she) has a graceful, lucid style and she brings the southern setting and characters vividly alive...I found his moral dilemma absorbing, and his solid relationship with his intelligent, savvy wife was refreshing."

Double Dead also has received thumbs ups from Mystery Scene Magazine and The American Library Association's Booklist, as well as advance praise from award-winning mystery authors Charles Todd, Judy Clemens and Cathy Pickens.

A finalist in the Malice Domestic St. Martin's Press contest for Best First Traditional Mystery, Double Dead is the first book in the Steve Harlan series. Terry Hoover, a native of Charlotte, NC, where Double Dead is set, now lives just outside the city, with her husband, a public relations consultant.
