Chicago Graphic Artist puts Spin on Mystery Novels

reported by Richard Harrisburg, FictionFanatic.com

Chicago author Tim Broderick isn?t just a mystery novelist. Nor is he just a graphic novelist. He is a pioneer in the fiction arena with a flair for the diverse. Once again combining his dramatic talent as an artist and his clever storytelling ability, Tim Broderick will see the publication of his third mystery graphic novel from Echelon Press in January 2008. "Cash & Carry" is the next installment of the tales of David Diangelo, the main character of Broderick?s Odd Jobs series, referred to as "Serious Mystery." Book one in the Odd Jobs series, "Lost Child" is currently available in an electronic version, while book two, "Something to Build Upon" is available in paperback from Twilight Tales. He also has a story in the ?Wall Street Noir? anthology from Akashic Press, coming in June.

The pending publication of "Cash & Carry" has garnered a wave of interest and requests from film production companies, including 20th Century Fox, Dimension Films, and Original Films.

?DAVID DiANGELO earns his living doing odd jobs, sometimes extremely odd.

He doesn?t consider himself a private eye?but he will be shot at, beaten with the butt of a shotgun, whacked with a two-by-four, have a wheel barrel-load of bricks thrown at him, almost poisoned, shot at again, tied up, beaten with fists, stripped down to his shorts and caged, almost blown up, almost strangled, cut with a machete, and beaten. Make no mistake, he can take care of himself, despite being more a suit-and-tie geek, than two-fisted bruiser. He?s solemn and straight as they come, but he can make that cursor fly. In fact, David?s one plugged-in, connected kinda guy. He uses the web to do research, plan trips, and keep in touch. As well as a home computer, he?s got a small handheld to keep in touch when he?s on the road.? ? Kevin Burton Smith, Thrillingdetective.com

"An intriguing tale that pushes the boundaries of the graphic novel." ?Raymond Benson, estate-authorized author of the James Bond novels, and author of Evil Hours

"Well-drawn, distinctive characters in a solid plot and a real sense of urban angst. These are people you can care about." ?Barbara D?Amato, Author of the best-selling Cat Marsala mysteries

Artist/writer Tim Broderick was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago. He now lives on the northwest side with his wife and identical twin daughters. Tim says "doing a webcartoon is a lot like performing live on a street corner. It?s earthier, less finished work but I think much more rewarding. My present style is designed to be loose, influenced by artists like Ralph Steadman, Hugo Pratt, and cartoonists like Chester Gould who weren?t afraid to draw outlandish but believable characters. The minimal style is meant to reflect the minimal writing style best used by Dashiell Hammett."
